Fixing Media
Fixing is a procedure designed to stop all the processes in a cell while maintaining, as far as possible, the structure and condition of the tissue. At the same time it prevents processes such as autolysis, decomposition and putrefaction. The fixing agent is selected according to the diagnostic problem being tackled, the type and size of the available material, the required embedding, and the staining methods to be used.
